Please welcome Andrew James of Beauty and the Boy with a guest post today on Hair Romance about his favourite hair products of 2014.

Hey Hair Romance Beauties!

I’m Andrew James, I’ll be guesting posting today on this awesome blog. You can normally find me over on my blog at  – a guide to all things makeup, hair and skin-care; reviews, tutorials, male grooming etc. I thought it’d be a great idea to do a post on my Top 5 Products of 2014 as the year draws to a close.

Being a hairdressing student, I get to try out new products on clients all the time. It’s a great way to get a wide view on how the products work on different hair types and textures.

So here are the 5 products that have been my absolute favourites this year. I’ve found myself going back to these particular products countless times myself, as well as the products I’ve been using on other people.

Label M Protein Spray

My first choice is the Label M Protein Spray. It’s a fantastic product for everyone, but especially for those of you who colour your hair, as it helps protect the hair. I like to think of it as ‘hair food’. This protein spray helps to make the hair look better and feel better by nourishing it.

Label M is a heat protectant and also shields your hair from sun damage, which is fantastic.

ghd Total Volume Foam

Total Volume Foam is one of the styling products from ghd – a product I didn’t think would do much to be honest. At first I thought ghd should just stick to their stylers but I was totally wrong.

It works best when you blowdry your hair with a round brush or blow dry your hair from side to side lifting up the hair as you go. This stuff gives you tons of volume. It comes out like a foam that’s applied to the roots and lengths of your hair.

Bumble and Bumble Straight Blow Dry

Bumble and Bumble Straight Blow Dry is one of the best blowdry balms I’ve used. Straight Blow Dry was introduced in 2011 and revealed a new definition of straight for those desperate to keep their hair under control. It’s the perfect tool for curly, coarse, frizzy and unruly hair.

This product’s heat-activated, but also works to protect against heat styling. Lightweight silicones and other smoothing agents reduce frizz while calming conditioners hydrate and soften hard-to-control hair, delivering straight and smooth styles for up to 3 days.

Bumble and Bumble Cityswept

Bumble and Bumble Cityswept is a firm favourite of mine simply because it’s so different to other hairsprays I’ve tried. I use this when I want to get some depth or when I want to get some messy texture – it’s perfect for that ‘street styled’ look.

Osmo Matte Clay Extreme

This is great for the people with shorter hair. I like a good matte hair product – I’m not too keen on lots of sheen. But unlike other matte hair products Osmo Matte Clay Extreme isn’t a hard or dense, unmoving product to handle. It’s a soft styling clay that offers a really good hold but doesn’t feel like it’s weighing your hair down.

It’s perfect for definition and texture on shorter hair. It’s also perfect if you love a good quiff. I use this all the time on myself and can’t live without it.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I hope you enjoyed it.
