Another fashion week style to steal – this sleek hidden braid as seen at Steven Khalil.

Last week I posted about the cool hair at Jennifer Kate and this hidden braid trend was also seen here at Steven Khalil.

Steven is a renowned bridal couturier and this year presented his first fashion couture collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia. His divine dresses are loved by celebs worldwide including Kylie Jenner.

The sleekness of this style really sets it above the rest. Steven described the look as “romantic but modern and clean.” Instead of finishing in a matching sleep bun, the hair is braided in two sections and curved around to form this interlinking braided bun.

Created by Hair Director, Sharon Blain for Goldwell, the look was inspired by this collection. Sharon says “The idea for this hair look evolved from looking at the gowns, the fabrics, their textures and also the embellishments. We wanted a design to complement the collection but not to overpower. Steven’s gowns range from simple column forms to full skirts and finishing with a stunning bridal gown. It was important to have the hair work across the entire range of different neck-lines and forms. This was a perfect complement and works successfully with all the collection.”

How to get the look – Hidden braids at Steven Khalil

  1. Blowdry your hair for a smooth start. Sharon used StyleSign Hot Form styling lotion and directionally blow dried the hair with a paddle brush from a centre pony tail, towards the nape to create a smooth finish.
  2. Create a centre part. Make the parting in line with the top of the ear from ear to ear, dividing the hair into two sections. Sharon added StyleSign Diamond Gloss through the hair for a high shine finish.
  3. Section your hair for the hidden braid. Work a three strand scalp braid in a 5cm panel down the centre of the forehead down to the back at the nape. Secure with a small band to hold. This can be lightly roughed for texture, but the braid should be tight.
  4. Smooth back the sides. Direct the sides softly back on both sides and secure at the nape. A light back combing on the sides with finer hair will help give body.
  5. Braid your ponytail. Divide the pony in two sections and work a three-strand braid to the end, band to hold.
  6. Curve the braids into a bun. Make a loop out to the sides and secure the ends at centre to hold. Repeat on other side, pin well and spray with StyleSign Magic Finish to hold.
